Common Hungarian labor residence permits issued at present

1. "Guest Worker" Card (vendég munkás kártya): This is issued when applying for a direct visa without an interview (submit the application, and once the result is received, go to the consulate to provide fingerprints and photos. If you have a flight ticket and insurance, you may receive the visa immediately).

   • Workers will receive this card when applying through outsourcing companies that are authorized to lease labor (minősített munkaerő kölcsönző cég) or some specially designated factories (e.g., some South Korean electronics assembly plants in Hungary).
   • Some characteristics: a/ Valid for 2 years
     b/ Can only be extended once for a maximum of 1 year, after which the worker must reapply for the visa in Hungary (no need to return to Vietnam).
     c/ Previously, visa processing was fast (20-40 days), but now it is slower (about 40-100 days). It's unclear whether this will change.
     d/ Cannot apply for a permanent residence card, and family reunification is not allowed.

2. "Employer Worker" Card (foglalkoztatási kártya):
   This card is issued when applying for a visa that requires an interview (apply for an interview appointment, submit the application, attend the interview, provide fingerprints and photos, and then bring the flight ticket and insurance to receive the visa).

   • Workers will receive this card when applying to work at factories or companies where they will actually be employed.
   • Some characteristics:
     a/ Valid for 2 years
     b/ Can be renewed multiple times with no limit on the number of renewals
     c/ Visa processing time was previously long (70-150 days), but now it is faster (about 30-50 days). It is unclear if this will change.
     d/ Cannot apply for a permanent residence card, and family reunification is not allowed.

3. "Hungary" Card (Magyar kártya):
   Issued to individuals who have made significant contributions in fields such as sports, culture, arts, research, filmmaking, or those with a college/university degree in certain fields supported by Hungary (e.g., IT, electrical engineering).

   • Holders of this card can apply for a permanent residence card in Hungary after 3 years of residence (Magyar letelepedési kártya), and can invite family members for reunification.

4. "EU Blue Card" (EU Kék kártya):
   This is NOT a permanent residence card but is issued to individuals with a university or college degree in certain fields who earn a high salary. The declared gross salary (before tax) varies by industry, and is generally between 618,919 Ft and 773,649 Ft.

   • Holders of this card can apply for a permanent residence card in Hungary after 5 years of residence (EU letelepedési kártya), and can invite family members for reunification.
